Report a problem or ask a question

Markraft is developed in the open. Open an issue on GitHub to report a bug, or search the existing issues to see whether it is already known. Feature requests and questions are welcome there too.

A good report says what you did, what you expected, and what happened instead. It also helps to include:

• The Markraft version, shown in Settings under About.
• Your macOS version.
• Whether you installed the Mac App Store version or the direct-download version.
• The crash report, if Markraft quit unexpectedly. Reports are saved on your Mac in ~/Library/Logs/Markraft and are sent only when you attach one yourself.

Common questions

• Changing the shortcut. The ⌥N shortcut and the optional shortcut for a new note are set in Settings.
• Moving your notes. Notes are plain .md files in the folder you chose. Choose a different folder in Settings, or move the files with Finder.
• Folder access. To use an existing notes folder in the Mac App Store version, choose it in Settings. The macOS folder picker gives Markraft permission to access that folder.
• Syncing. Keep the notes folder in iCloud Drive or another sync service. That service does the syncing.

Installing and updating

The Mac App Store version is a one-time purchase that supports development. The App Store shows your local price and handles installation and updates.

The direct-download version is free. Open the downloaded .dmg file and drag Markraft to Applications. This version checks for updates through its own updater. To check manually, open Settings, select About, and choose Check for Updates.

Switching versions with existing notes

Both versions use plain Markdown files. Your notes need no conversion. Use the steps below to select your existing notes folder in the version you install.

1. In your current version, open Settings and select Files.
2. Open the Notes folder menu and choose Show in Finder to locate your existing folder.
3. Quit Markraft with ⌘Q.
4. Install and open the version you want to use.
5. In Settings, select Files.
6. Open the Notes folder menu and choose Choose Folder.
7. Select your existing notes folder in the macOS folder picker.

Your existing notes appear in Markraft. The folder picker also grants the Mac App Store version access to the folder. Check your shortcuts and other preferences after switching. These steps select your notes folder and do not transfer settings.

Mac App Store purchases

Apple handles payment for the Mac App Store version. To ask for a refund, use reportaproblem.apple.com. To install Markraft again on another Mac, sign in to the App Store with the same Apple Account and download it from your purchases.
